Apple Cider Vinegar Cleanse: Are the results worth the hunger??

02 . 16 . 20

My friends are always trying some new meal plan or detox to assist with workouts results. This time I decided, at the last minute, that I would join even though I wasn’t enthused about it. I did not plan to lose any weight, but to detox my body from the junk I’ve been eating since the holidays of 2019 began.

The detox of choice was JJ Smith’s Apple Cider Vinegar Cleanse and the basis of the Cleanse seemed easy to get through:
7 days total
Apple Cider Vinegar concoction to drink to some point during the day
Eating clean and light over the course of the cleanse
And all the herbal tea I desire (big bonus, since I drink herbal tea more than anything else)

Example of Day 1 Meal Plan:

Looking at the menu, I was fine with the choices of food I had for the day. I kept thinking “I can eat eggs for breakfast and I’ll be good with a spinach salad for my other two meals”. All that was true, but I forgot how my body treats salad like the appetizer it is and begs me for more food afterwards. And when I say beg, I mean loud growling noises that I usually have to apologize for because I am disturbing others close in vicinity.

A few hours in and it was official. I was STARVED!

Here’s how Day 1 went for me:
11:00am – ACV drink
12:00pm – 2 scrambled eggs
1:00pm – STARVED
3:00pm – 2 cups spinach w/ balsamic vinegar dressing (I don’t eat pecans so I left those out) + 8 baby carrots (switched out for the mashed avocado)
3:30pm – STARVED
3:45pm – handful of peanuts
4:00pm – too STARVED to sit still or to work out so I just talked about food- lol
5:00pm – banana
8:00pm – 2 scrambled eggs
9:00pm – put myself out of my misery + went to bed so I couldn’t think about food anymore

Day 2 was a hairline fracture easier than Day 1. Day 2 consisted of the same schedule, but I actually ate a few more snacks to help me out. Things were also easier to stomach with me mixing + matching foods within both, Meal Plan A + Meal Plan B. I made sure to eat the strawberries, blueberries and V8 juice after getting a few suggestions to make them more appealing. I froze the blueberries so they were like a treat and I warmed + had with spinach like soup 😩.The ACV did work a little better at suppressing my appetite by Day 2 so I was able to detour my mind with the reality. Reality being that my body isn’t hungry versus used to eating and snacking throughout the day.

Day 3-5 was more satisfying since I was able to incorporate broccoli and a sweet potato with the items for the previous 2 days.

A lot of the time, it is mind over matter when it comes to the frequency of when we feed ourselves. We want a snack all the time and still eat full meals though our bodies may not be hungry.

Over the last 6 days, my mind has been kicking my ass. I “needed” to eat everything in sight. I wanted the chips on TV and a slice of the pizza the neighbors ordered. Hell, I was even imagining how a fried pork chop would taste and I haven’t had pork in a decade. I just needed a bite of something!

Some challenges we rise to the occasion + succeed; others we may fall short and have to attempt again… this ACV cleanse was exactly one of those times of falling short. I made it 5 days and by day 6 I was over it and eating fried chicken tacos- lol.

The cleanse is not too tough and depriving to complete. I just didn’t feel the need to continue for two more days when I was not in it for the weight loss effects.

During the 5 days, I did notice my palette adjusting and detoxing all the carbs and sugars I intake so much of. Now, it is more satisfying to grab a few blueberries or a banana instead of the brownie + gummy bears when I have a craving for something sweet.

I definitely recommend giving it a try to cleanse your body or to aid in a weight loss journey. I do advise that you do one thing differently than I did- don’t quit, FINISH THE CLEANSE. You will be proud + thank yourself afterwards. You may not have any complaints if you happen to drop 7-13 pounds either.
