Staying Well in Chaos

The current pandemic of COVID-19 has stopped + shaken parts of the world in ways like never before.

Businesses are tentatively closing or having their employees work from home. Schools are on hold and/or transitioning to online formats to continue the rest of the semester. Even, church and the NBA are cancelled until further notice. All within good reason.

The general public are not making the best choices to have the situation shrink. The best way to help the situation is to first start with yourself. If you are feeling sick, stay home! If you aren’t sick, let’s keep it that way.

A few ways I keep myself healthy during seasonal changes + times of viral disease:

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water + ginger tea. Studies have found that staying hydrated may boost immune response to help your body fight off viruses. Ginger is also one of the best foods to combat cold + flu like viruses and boost your immunity.

Keep your frequency high: Fear + anxiety welcome negative energy. Try not to feed into the frenzy, but make sure you and your loved ones are safe and well. Those that are well should move making safe, heart based decisions. Run the few must-do errands, take care of yourself + help those whom may need you during this time. If you feel ill, STAY HOME to keep the people you care about well.

Try not to participate in the fear-based decisions of stocking up on ALL the groceries + hand sanitizer in the city. Give your mind a break from the news. Trade social media + CNN for reading, bonding with those in your household or watching the 9 seasons of Shameless on Netflix. Catching up on sleep is another way to fight off toxicity + keep you at a healthy frequency.

Clean often: Wash your hands every chance you get. Use this time to do spring cleaning at home/work; wipe down couches, phones, computers, inside of your car, etc.

I use an Apple Cider Vinegar + water mixture as a disinfectant in my house. I use it most to clean my furniture. The smell is not the best, but it will go away after a few hours. Open a window, burn an incense or use a diffuser to improve the aroma. This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is smartselect_20200315-193841.jpg

Disinfect: Several things can disinfect your spaces. Most use lysol, but there are healthier, chemical free options like essential oils + sage.

I keep frankincense + patchouli room spray in my car to keep germs to a minimum. Frankincense is an antiseptic and disinfectant agent that has antimicrobial effects. It has the ability to eliminate cold + flu germs from the home and the body naturally.

In my house, I burn sage twice a week. The properties in the smoke kill most of the existing bacteria in the air along with releasing any bad energies. Be sure to open a window for an hour to let the smoke out.

Eliminate germs spreading: When you get home, change out of your outside clothes to keep potential germs from spreading. Don’t sit on the couch, bed or any other fabric without changing. Doing so will ensure the germs you bring inside stay contained (I do this to keep my allergies under control also).

We, as a collective, have to do our parts to eliminate the continuous spread of COVID-19. Practice social distancing during the times you have to go into public places. Hugs are great, but not at this time. Respect the human bubble + set boundaries for those in close contact with you. And always, WEAR A MASK!!

It’s not an airborne disease; if we can wear our mask + keep our droplets (saliva, sweat, etc.) to ourselves, we may save the lives of many.
